BA Connect flights axed
British Airways has cancelled 900 loss-making regional flights as a result
of its sale of BA Connect to UK regional carrier Flybe.
BA Connect’s services have been disrupted since last month, when
time lags to the acquisition deal led to early disruption of the airline’s
schedules.
Now the deal has been finalised, BA has detailed a raft of cancellations
over the airlines’ 4 March-24 March transition period in preparation
for the permanent axing of some of the routes.
BA says: “All of the routes being cancelled are substantial loss
makers for the current BA Connect business. These routes need to be cancelled
to protect the on-going viability of the business.”
Destinations affected by the cancellations comprise: Aberdeen, Barcelona,
Berlin Tegel, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Geneva, Glasgow,
Hamburg, Hanover, Lyon, Madrid, Manchester, Milan Malpensa, Munich, Southampton,
Vienna and Zurich.
